Wayne has been an established, self taught illustrator on the Sunshine Coast since 1985. His early highlight commissions include caricatures for the entire Norwood Football Club, a prominent SANFL team, during their historic Grand Final Victoy in 1984 and tshirt designs for Golden Breed, a prominent surf and sport clothing company. On arrival in Queensland in 1985 Wayne became known for his radical hand painted T-Shirts which quickly led to him working for a great many years in the Screen Printing Industry specialising in fashion, commercial, habitat and surf/youth culture print design. That same period he worked as a sign writer, working for himself and other sign writers. Through this period he gained his skills in Graphic Design, on account of designing logos for commercial prints and signs/banners. 1986/87 was a renaissance period of productivity, producing a surf comic called Harvey Wavebanga for a few years for Waves Magazine in Sydney, Australia. Since 1991 Wayne has been commissioned by The Hyatt Regency in Coolum, Queensland as a regular caricature artist in their popular Village Square. This opened window in the Entertainment sector, extending his popular caricature skills for events from private parties to corporate conventions and since then, this has become a key focus in his services as an artist. Another reason for
the success in this area is because, besides being a good entertainment
act, it also delivers an end product that people will keep for some
length of time, and they have copyright license granted for any non-commercial
purpose, such as cut&pasting for birthday invitations or emails
etc. Other highlights in this category of work includes commissioning by The Hamilton Island Resort, Queensland, Summertime in Europe '98 operating around the café terraces in Belgium, Holland, the Brighton Pier in England, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. As a result of working
in public, often under extreme pressure, Wayne has developed a signature
style in his line work known as speedhand, which he teaches to all ages
both privately and at various educational institutions. Wayne's illustrative
capabilities are as diverse in style as his clients and market demand.
This is particularly evident in some of his recent works in the Permaculture
field. Landscape and structural illustrations have been commissioned
to him since his successful completion of the Permaculture Design Certificate
Course in 1994. His most prominent being the front cover of author Bill
Mollison's, 'Introduction to Permaculture' and the 'Louisianna Army
Ammunition Plant' Eco-Industrial |
